DIY Easy Washi Tape Photo Album Cover

Washi Tape Photo Album Cover | Our Sweet Somewhere

Whenever Shutterfly sends me a promo to order 100 free prints, I always make sure to use it right away! Between the pictures taken on my iPhone camera and Canon, I feel like I could just continue to print for days. But, if you’re like me, the kind of person that loves to take a million photos yet, cannot ever find the time to create an adventurous scrapbook, then you’re in luck ’cause I’ve got a simple photo album project for you.

I recently used my 100 print promo on pictures that I had taken on our trip out west when we visited Kate and her hubby Anthony two years ago! So many wonderful memories were made that it was just  impossible to not make a photo album (and a simple one at that). Here’s what you’ll need to create yours:

– 0.99 plain photo album (Target or Walmart)

– printed memories

– alphabet + number stickers (Michaels, Target, or Walmart)

– washi tape

– colored or line paper

– scissors

I discarded the postcard-like paper cards that were in the front and back pockets of the album and just replaced it with lined paper so that you’re able to read the album cover easier. As you can see with mine, I kept it very simple but colorful. The colors I chose reminded me of the bright and beautiful day we enjoyed at Wyoming’s annual county fair. A few pictures down, you can see a couple snapshots from it!

Just allow your imagination to do the creating!

Quick Craft: Easy 10 minute DIY Earrings

Here’s a quick craft you can do in less than ten minutes! You don’t need many supplies, and you can wear your creation right away!

I inherited two tins full of buttons from my grandma. Some of them still have the original price on them, the lowest I found was 45 cents! I couldn’t even imagine buying buttons for that cheap now! The ones I am using today were still only $1.10! I wonder what year she bought them?

The players:

Hot glue gun

Two matching buttons

Earring backs – I got mine from JoAnn’s. It came in a pack of 4 and were less than four dollars. That means less than a dollar for a pair of earrings since I had the buttons already!

Plug your glue gun in and add a pea size amount of glue to the earring back and attach immediately to the back of your button. Be careful that the glue doesn’t seep through the holes onto the front!

Voilà! Complete! As soon as the glue is dry you can wear them. How easy, right? I really love how this pair matches, but the one button has a little dark spot.
Excuse the selfies, I had to try them on right away because they were so cute!

I love how quick this craft went. Since I have so many buttons and more backs that I am thinking of making more. Here are some of my favorite buttons from my collection. What is your favorite?

What She Wore

What Kate Wore:

If you have read our about us section, you will know that I spent a few of years out west. That time made me a true fan of western style, especially classic pearl snap shirts. This classic look is perfect if you want to “dress up”. I’ve seen men wear them with their best pair of jeans and boots to weddings! (I will post more about western weddings soon because they rock!)

As much as I have an appreciation for and dig wearing my western wear while I’m visiting my once home for two years, I may get funny looks decked out in my boots, Wranglers, pearl snaps, and cowboy hat in downtown Columbus. I decided to take a new spin on my western shirt and pair it with purple jeans and my trusty thrifted boots

Have you ever had lived or visited a place that influenced your style?

What Jamie Wore:

Last week in Virginia we had a brief moment of spring just before another snow storm decided to make its way through the area. With a high temp of 70, it was almost too good to be true! Like many people that day, I made the most out of it by spending a good portion of it outside. Not having to wear a sweater or a pair of socks was the highlight of my week. Seriously.

Giving Old Clothes New Life: Wear an old dress as a new shirt!

So I have a dress that has sentimental value. I bought it years ago as a “going out” dress and wore it to so many fun parties in so many different cities around the world. It is now a lot older and has seen some better days. Don’t get me wrong, if the right occasion calls, I pull it out of the closet for another go-round. But that is happening less and less. Especially now since I am not in college any more and my “going out” nights consist more and more of a of splitting a few appetizers with friends, having a few glasses of wine or a few beers, then calling it a night.
But instead of putting my dress away for good I decided to make it more work appropriate and turn it into a shirt!

Here is my dress before:

Here is the dress transformed into my work outfit I wore today!

Dresses as Skirts l Our Sweet Somewhere

The key is in high-waisted skirts that create an A-line. Not only do they create a flattering shape on pretty much anyone, but also they create the illusion that your dress is really a shirt. I have a few high-waisted skirts that I wear different with dresses.

I’ve done this for years and often get complements on my outfit. Sometimes, the dress and skirt pair so well together people ask where I got my dress! They are surprised to hear that it is not a dress, rather two separate pieces.

Here is another example of a dress as a shirt.

What do you think? Do you ever wear a dress as a shirt or another piece of clothing in a new and new way? Let’s inspire each other!

St. Patty’s Day: Healthy Shamrock Shake

Yesterday my boyfriend and I chose to eat at one of our favorite burger places for lunch, Elevation Burger! Let me be the first to tell you that their burgers are ridiculously good! As far as your healthier-environment-friendly-made burgers go, I would definitely say Elevation Burger should be considered as having one of the nation’s best all-natural, organic-made burgers.

With all this burger talk, I was also craving a milk shake of some sort. Yes. It was that kind of day: burgers and shakes.  So in honor of St. Patty’s Day and in response to Kate’s festive Irish posts (here and here), I found this deliciously simple Shamrock Shake recipe from Running To The Kitchen‘s blog. This shake was all sorts of amazing! I can assure you that I plan on making this again in the near future (St. Patty’s Day or not). I made the recipe as calls for, but used chopped Andes mints instead to top the shake off. I also threw in about 5-6 large spinach leaves to give it more of a green color as suggested.
