Get Inspired: Morgantown, WV

Friday is almost here, and we are less than twelve hours away from our weekend adventure of meeting “half way” in Morgantown, WV! Since choosing this location, we’ve researched a ton of info on the many things to do and places to see in this awesome little-big town from local boutiques and antiques to breweries and state parks. The hard part now is just figuring out how we’ll be able to cram it all into one weekend!

We’ve come up with this Morgantown mood board to help get us inspired even more for our visit to this beautiful city (and maybe inspire you too for your next #adventuresomewhere getaway?)! Is there anything else we should make sure to include in this little corner of the wild and wonderful state of West Virginia? If so, let us know and we will be sure to add it to our ever-growing list!

We’ll be posting snapshots and updates on our travels to Morgantown all weekend through our Instagram and Twitter accounts; be sure to check out our #adventuresomewhere and #30photosaseason tags to see what we’ll be up to next!

Finding Pinspiration: Summer Reading

Kate’s Inspirations

Was anyone else obsessed with the Gilmore Girls? For a pick-me-up, I may or may not return to reruns when I have had a long day. The quick banter between Rory and Lorelai never gets old, the way Rory is so into her studies and books I find inspiring, the chemistry between Lorelai and Luke. Sigh. Not to mention the men that find their way in and out of Rory’s life are not half bad to look at!

Inspiration Gilmore l Our Sweet Somewhere

Apparently 339 classic books were mentioned and read by Rory in the show. All have been compiled over at Going Down Swinging. Now, I am not inspired to read all 339 books, but I will list my top 6 to read this summer. A much more reasonable goal!

Rory Gilmore summer book list inspiration l Our Sweet Somewhere.jpg
1. Crime and Punishment by Fyoder Dostoyevsky  |  2. 1984 by George Orwell  |  3. Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen  |  4. Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke  |  5. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger  |  6. Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I have read books by George Orwell and F. Scott Fitzgerald before and love their writing style. Girl, Interrupted was an awesome movie so I am sure I will love the book. The other three I have heard great things about and always see them on the “to-read” classic lists.

What would you pick from the Rory Gilmore inspired reading list?

Jamie’s Inspirations

Although I didn’t watch The Gilmore Girls in high school as nearly as much as Kate (and when I say as much, I’m talking about her knowing pretty much every episode by heart), I still love reading and watching a good teenage romantic drama. Oh yes. Who remembers those TV shows we all once loved as blossoming teenagers like My So-Called Life, Freaks and Geeks, and Saved By the Bell? Well, now that I’ve got you thinking back to these days, remember what being young and in love felt like too? My summer reading this year is inspired from these moments of young love that we all still may hold dear in our hearts. Also, I’ve heard only great things about these six books for young adults!
Summer Reading 2014

1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell  |  2. Love With a Chance of Drowning by Torre DeRoche  |  3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green  |  4. Paper Towns by John Green  |  5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky  |  6. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I know many of you have already read most of these by now, but this girl (Jamie) needs to play major catch up on all the latest and greatest reads these days!

What has inspired your summer reading list for this year?

Beer! YUM!

Recently, Fat Tire moseyed its way across the Mississippi River and into Ohio. I cannot tell you how happy this has made me! Being in Wyoming, I got spoiled by having all kinds of yummy brewers across the border in Colorado.
There is nothing better than a cold beer on the front porch on a warm summer evening. But I am starting to realize how much more there is to do beyond just drinking beer. Here are some recipes on my “to-make” list that include beer:

I don’t know if it’s just ’cause spring is in the air or what, but I have been having ridiculous cravings for LEMONS! The thought of them right now is just making my mouth water. Weird, I know. Since lemons are quite versatile, there are so many dishes and drinks that can be made for any time of the day. You betcha I’ll be making these tasty finds at some point soon!

The weather is Ohio is a big tease. This weekend the temperature got up to almost 60 degrees! I considered going out in a t-shirt and skirt without tights, but then thought better. I still left the house in only a light sweater. We are back down into the 20’s now and I am bitter, cold, and seriously day dreaming about summertime.

I would like to introduce you to my future back yard. This home is, of course, located in a temperate climate like San Diego (without the cost of living). My kitchen windows open up to a patio/bar. You are all invited over for drinks. Watch the mail for an invitation.

Expect at my party for me to be wearing one of these cool, bright, and flowing summer dresses. Complements will not be necessary, but encouraged.

Typography is a skill that I’ve had a desire to learn more about recently, and while I have somewhat of a basic understanding for it, I want to play with some new techniques that don’t require just a pen and piece of paper. These finds on Pinterest caught my eyes instantly and have me in absolute awe with the amount of talent the artists have!

So many ideas have been a-brewing in my head, especially with spring just around the corner! Can’t wait to experiment with bright florals so that I can clear my head from this winter blues!

Kate’s Inspirations:

This deep winter has made my heart heavy. I am yearning to travel, to get out of my house, breath in fresh air, see something new. I am experiencing some serious wanderlust this cold night.

Wanderlust

While I am taking a small trip this weekend to see family in Pennsylvania and it will help take the edge of this longing, it will not cure it.

I spent some time looking at pictures of places that I used to live. That helped fill my hungry heart some, to know there is still time to see the world and to explore it.

Jamie’s Inspirations:

A couple of years ago I was gifted a used but beautiful Canon AE-1 from my boyfriend’s father. It works almost perfectly except for the fact that the battery needs replacing for the metering feature to work properly again. I have not taken the time yet to get this fixed, but once I do, I am definitely going to put this bad boy in to good use. Here are a few beautiful finds of film shots taken by the talented Luisa Brimble of Serendipity Corner. I just love how film makes photos seem so soft and dream-like! These colors just melt my heart.

I’d also really love to learn more about film and double exposure. From what I understand, it’s a very difficult process as far as choosing which two images to shoot that will eventually become blended. The images pictured below make me  wonder how the photographers’ thought processes were in creating these two beautiful pieces of work!

Next weekend has a got a lot of fun adventures in store for the both of us (if weather permits of course, and we sure hope it does)!
