Capri on a Budget

Capri I love you - OSS

Capri, the island once home to Emperor Caesar Augustus’ summer home now inhabited by socialites in villas. It really is a special place with colors so vibrant it almost doesn’t seem real.

We visited Capri in early March, before the summer rush of tourists coming to get a glimpse of the famous Faraglioni peaks. Visiting Capri before the hoards of tourists means no lines to get onto the chairlift up to Mount Solaro and plenty of time to shoot the Mediterranean breeze with the locals.Read More »

Spring Kale Salad (Time Lapse)

spring kale salad by our sweet somewhere

Spring is here (singing in my best Julie Andrews impression)!

What better way to kick-start this wonderful season than with a kale salad movie?!

Now, raw kale is a new [re]discovery of mine. I used to try to always eat it raw, but found that it and my belly were never good friends. But it wasn’t until very recently that I learned that you should always massage kale in order to eat it raw and for the best possible outcome. Yep, you read that right…MASSAGE!

Cray, huh? You will see in the video below what I mean exactly, but to read about how this process breaks down the indigestible fibers, check out this Huff Post article.

Add whatever you have in your fridge, just know that the bed on which it is going on is the real star in this show!

Let us know what you think of this video and if you want to see more like it. Please keep in mind though that this was our first attempt at creating a time lapse video, so it can only go up from here! :)

xoxo,

P.S. There will be a post on the amazing homemade dressing shown in the video..soon. Promise!

Washington D.C.’s Cherry Blossoms

I finally got the chance to see Washington D.C.’s cherry blossom trees this year while they were in full bloom just a few weeks ago. It has always been on my “to do” list for places to see in the northern Virginia area, but in the four years that I’ve lived here now, not once was I able to make it out in time to see these beauties during their peak bloom.

I brought along with me my coworker, Alice, who had never seen the DC blossoms either. We took the metro downtown and basically spent most of the morning walking around the Tidal Basin where Jefferson’s Memorial is located. Let me tell you…this place was hopping and there were loads of people everywhere! I could only imagine what the following weekend was going to be like with the festival happening.

It truly is a wonderful experience and I definitely recommend it for anyone planning on visiting the nation’s capital during the spring season!
